TUESDAY STUDIO CLASS

at LONG ISLAND ACADEMY OF FINE ART (ONGOING)

Winter Term- January 6 to April 3. Rolling admission

This course will cover the process of drawing and/or painting with the student’s preferred media:  graphite, charcoal, colored pencil, oil and chalk pastels, watercolor, acrylic paint, or oil paint.  Students furnish their own supplies, but please ask us for advice on brands if you are purchasing from scratch as not all art supplies are created equal!

For this class, students can choose their own observational content.  Examples of this include landscape, animals, portrait, and still life.  The instructor will assist in helping each individual discover which approach will work best for them.  The following techniques can be explored, or your own personal approach can be honed.

Materials

Below are suggested materials for students, all linked to Blick Art, separated by medium.

Charcoal Drawing

Charcoal Drawing on Toned Paper

Student Drawing & Painting Supplies (ages 12 and under)

Oil Painting (N.B. I suggest large tubes for white and ultramarine blue)

Additional Supplies Needed for Oil Painting:

A lighter easel/mast option- great for travel: Easel-Camera Tripod- I’ve been using this easel for the last few years, great to travel with, as it collapses quite small. NB, if you opt for this, you will also need the Leder Easel (linked next), which essentially is a mast/holder for your panel, and has a support for your palette

Leder Easel attachment- goes with Camera Tripod to hold palette
